Job Summary
The Liver Research Group at the Digestive Healthcare Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, seeks a highly motivated, self-directed Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). The individual will handle study tasks related to data and sample collection for tissue repositories, including subject enrollment, follow-up visits, clinical data capture, blood draws, specimen processing, and collaboration management. The role involves regulatory start-up, patient recruitment, retention, and opportunities to learn genetic and epigenetic assays, as well as basic computational and data visualization techniques.
The candidate must work independently, organize workflows efficiently, and be flexible with scheduling, including occasional evenings and Saturdays. A strong undergraduate background in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry, along with data analysis experience and healthcare interaction, is desirable. Basic programming knowledge in Python and R is beneficial but not mandatory.
This position offers direct engagement with patients, healthcare professionals, and opportunities to learn about clinical, translational, and computational research in a large academic medical center.
Qualifications
Principal duties include managing study operations, patient enrollment, blood and specimen collection, data entry, biospecimen processing, IRB submissions, and maintaining regulatory documents. The role also involves developing recruitment strategies, preparing reports, and coordinating study progress.
Required skills include excellent analytical and communication skills, lab techniques, problem-solving, organization, professionalism, and computer literacy. A BA/BS degree is required, with preferred backgrounds in biology, laboratory science, biostatistics, or programming in R or Python.
The study coordinator will also manage study funds, invoices, and follow-up on payments. The work involves conducting subject visits in a medical setting, handling biological specimens, and may require lifting up to 25 pounds. The schedule is primarily day shifts with flexibility for evenings and weekends.
