Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA is seeking a Clinical Research Associate to screen and enroll patients in clinical trials in the Emergency Department. You will work with clinical research staff to ensure protocol compliance and timely data entry.

Responsibilities include eligibility verification, informed consent discussions, scheduling follow-up tests, and coordinating with investigators and IRB. 0–1 year experience preferred; Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Learn protocol and monitor adherence with physicians and staff.
  • Extract and enter data from records into case report forms and systems.
  • Assist with insurance approvals and scheduling tests/admissions.
  • Assist with IRB correspondence as needed.

Works closely with other clinical research staff. May be required to work varied shifts. This position is in the Emergency Department.Job Description:Primary Responsibilities:1. Independently or in conjunction with other clinical research staff and/or research nurse, recruits and enrolls patients onto clinical trials according to study protocols. May assess patients' eligibility for inclusion in a particular protocol based on contracts with physicians and nurses and knowledge of the protocol. (essential)2. Checks all eligibility and ineligibility criteria with the patients' medical record. Verifies information with clinical research nurse and/or principal investigator. (essential)3. Discusses informed consent with patients. Interacts with patients prior to entering the study and throughout the entire treatment. Assists with scheduling appointments and follow up tests. (essential)4. Learns protocol and monitors strict adherence to protocols by physicians, nurses and patients. Reviews protocol requirements with physicians, nurses and fellows. Identifies any problems with protocol compliance and notifies principal investigator and/or research nurse. Begins to learn how to independently resolve problems with protocol. (essential)5. Extracts data on protocol patients from hospital records, outpatient charts and private physician office records in order to complete case report forms required by specific protocols. Enters data into computerized system. (essential)6. May assist clinic staff in obtaining insurance approval for patient protocol participation and scheduling tests and arranging admissions or outpatient visits for patients. (essential)7. Assists investigator with correspondence with IRB. Examples: Front desk receptionist, info desk receptionist, resource specialists, interpreters, transporters, etc.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department.Pay Range:$21.64 – $26.50The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
