Job description

Position Summary:

The Center for Shock Trauma and Anesthesiology Research/Trauma Research in the School of Medicine is recruiting for a C1 (contractual) Research Assistant, Clinical position. The role involves assisting with research projects in a clinical setting, including recruiting study subjects and organizing data. The candidate should work independently, applying fundamental concepts and procedures of the field. This position offers an opportunity to work on federally funded studies and industry-sponsored drug and device trials, focusing on trauma resuscitation, traumatic brain injury, neuro-intensive care, clinical outcomes, critical care, sepsis, or acute lung injury.


UMB requires all personnel to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with exemptions processed through HR. This temporary, full-time, non-benefitted night shift position requires working nights, weekends, and holidays. Only serious inquiries are encouraged.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicate directly with participants regarding the research study.
  • Perform data collection through interviews, medical chart reviews, and accessing medical systems.
  • Recruit and screen subjects per IRB protocols, verify eligibility, obtain consent, and ensure accurate demographic data.
  • Maintain databases using Microsoft Excel/Access, perform data checks, audits, and cleaning.
  • Develop data collection instruments such as surveys.
  • Analyze data using SAS, STATA, SPSS, and develop statistical reports.
  • Assist in preparing grants, papers, abstracts, and presentations.
  • Conduct literature searches and assist in protocol development.
  • Perform administrative duties, including training staff and liaising with external entities.
  • Maintain inventory of bio specimens and related tasks.
Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in epidemiology, sociology, psychology, biology, emergency health services, nursing, or related field.
Experience: Prior clinical research experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience as specified.
Other Requirements: May require safety and health training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
