Position Focus:

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Research and Education, and as a member of the larger Research and Education Department, the Clinical Research and Education Librarian provides point-of-need services, clinical reference and research information support to clinical professionals in the clinical setting within the Yale New Haven Health System in support of their clinical, educational, and research goals. The librarian will connect healthcare providers with library resources and services to help drive innovative evidence-based care, improve quality outcomes, and contribute to a culture of inquiry.

The librarian cultivates partnerships between the library and assigned liaison areas in the health sciences through outreach, instruction, collaboration, and research support services. The librarian communicates regularly with clinical staff to inform them of available library services and resources by participating in hospital committee meetings, and resident and staff orientation. The librarian provides individual and group instruction on clinical and health sciences resources assisting hospital staff in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Working with a team of librarians, the librarian will have the opportunity to work on evidence synthesis projects and patient care guidelines and protocols to enhance and support clinical patient care and research to ensure that healthcare teams are basing service development decisions on current evidence to improve patient care. The librarian supports clinical staff in their research and publishing and consults on in-depth research questions based on the on-going clinical interest of hospital staff.

The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library provides an innovative environment where librarians work across departments and collaborate on projects. The library supports librarians’ individual goals and interests while balancing operational needs, offering mentoring and generous professional development opportunities and support.

1. Provides in-depth reference, information, research, and consultation services for clinical professionals and users in the health sciences community. 2. Provides training and support for the identification and retrieval of high-quality evidence for clinical questions and decision-making including the use of databases and mobile apps. 3. Conducts literature searches to support patrons’ research, grants, clinical practice, animal use, systematic reviews, teaching, and publishing. 4. Creates and maintains online guides, learning objects, websites, and other research support tools. Collaborates with fellow librarians and other providers of information resources to support research and teaching. 5. Works closely with the Collection Strategies Librarian on acquiring clinical information resources and preparing and promoting them for availability to users. 6. May be required to periodically meet with, teach classes, and present at or attend morning reports, grand rounds, and other clinically relevant forums in the early morning or evening. 7. Collaborates with library, university, and hospital personnel on projects including grants, papers, poster presentations, or other creative undertakings. 8. Supports the curricular needs of assigned departments and programs by teaching didactic and hands-on sessions as requested by faculty. 9. Participates in the general library instruction programs. In collaboration with the Research and Education team, identifies, prepares and presents a range of classes on various topics, including biomedical databases, citation management tools and biomedical research strategies. 10.Serves on departmental and library system-wide committees. 11. May serve as project manager for a variety of short-term and long-term projects. 12. Demonstrates professional development and service through publication and/or active membership in professional organizations. 13. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts. 14. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s degree from an ALA‐accredited library school. In selected instances, a graduate degree in a related discipline may be substituted for a master’s degree in library science. Experience working collegially, collaboratively, and independently with varied groups within and across a complex organization, and rapidly changing team environment.
