Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor – FLEX ICU (Third Shift)

We are offering a $20,000 bonus!

UC Health is hiring a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor for the ENT and Burn ICUs at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The RN Supervisor will support the Medical Center's ENT and Burn ICUs, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures.

Units Description
Ear Nose Throat (ENT)-2CCP Annex

The ENT Unit serves a diverse older adolescent and adult patient population with head and neck cancer surgery requiring reconstruction with free flaps and new surgical airways such as tracheostomies, laryngectomies, and stents, treatment of airway stenosis, and other ENT reconstruction surgeries. The inpatient ICU is a 6-bed unit with variable acuity.

Burns Special Care Unit (BSCU)- 5 South

The Burn Special Care Service (BSCU) serves diverse older adolescents and adult patient populations with burn injury and reconstruction, ENT reconstruction surgery, airway surgery, and complex wounds, such as free flaps or amputations with reattachment with plastics and orthopedic surgery. The inpatient ICU is a 10-bed unit with variable acuity.

Responsibilities
  • The RN Supervisor assumes responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervising nursing staff.
  • Provides input on staff evaluations and completes evaluations for their regular staff cohort.
  • Assists with cost containment and manages all employees to do the same.
  • Requires knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Supervises staff assigned to their unit or center of excellence and demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Leads and implements operational improvement initiatives and assures compliance via staff coaching and mentoring.
  • Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Ensures shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316).
  • Maintains hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in the required time frame.
  • Collaborates with the Department Educator and/or provides orientation and educational needs identified in the department.
  • Engages staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the department PI plan.
  • Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the work environment.
