Clinical Pharmacy Technician Sr - Remote

Job Description

Evaluates and authorizes approval of prior authorization pharmacy requests from prescribers received by telephone and/or facsimile using client clinical criteria.

Responsibilities
  1. Determines appropriateness for medications. Communicates decision to physicians, physician's office staff, medical management staff, and/or pharmacists. Researches, resolves, and documents prior authorization outcomes in pharmacy system.
  2. Communicates selected prior authorization criteria, pharmacy benefit coverage, and formulary alternatives to physicians, physician's office staff, medical management staff, and/or pharmacists.
  3. Escalates requests to Pharmacist when request requires extensive clinical review or denial.
  4. Monitors telephone system to ensure adequate staffing to maintain client service levels.
  5. Assesses training needs within the team. Serves as a training resource, mentor, and coach to others. Identifies and shares best practices.
  6. Demonstrates, advocates, and reinforces a positive team environment.
  7. Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • GED or High School diploma required.
  • Required CPT/ExCPT/LPT/PTCB/RPT, Pharmacy Technician, State Requirements - Pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 2+ years pharmacy experience.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa or residency sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications
  • Active pharmacy technician licensure or registration per state requirements.
  • If no exam is required for licensure/registration, must have both active pharmacy technician licensure and national certification (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT).
  • Experience in specialty or retail pharmacy, reimbursement, or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of specialty injectable drugs, disease states, formulary management, medical terminology, and coding (ICD-9, J/Q codes, CMS 1500).
  • Proficiency in pharmacy systems and MS Office.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow clinical criteria and instructions accurately.
  • At least 2 years dispensing or retail experience or equivalent internal training.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time and operate computer equipment.
  • Good hearing and communication skills.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
