The Medicine Journal is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Technician to support ED med reconciliation and home medication therapy processing. You will collect clinical data, interview patients about their home medications, and verify information across external systems and retail pharmacies.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma and CPhT certification.
  • CPhT with at least 1 year of pharmacy experience required.
  • LPN/RN with CPhT acceptable with no experience.
  • Proficiency testing in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) required.
  • TN state license within 60 days of employment required.
  • AS degree in Pharmacy Technology is preferred.
  • One year IV compounding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Education
Required
  • High School Graduate, CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician)
  • Testing in proficiency for Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Preferred
  • AS Degree in Pharmacy Technology or Accredited Pharmacy Tech Course completion
Experience
Required
  • CPhT must have a minimum of one year pharmacy experience
  • LPN, RN with CPhT Certification is acceptable with no experience.
Preferred
  • One year IV Compounding experience

Required
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician, Active Certified Pharmacy Technician and must have or the ability to obtain Tennessee State Pharmacy License within 60 days of employment.
Department Position Summary

Clinical Pharmacy Technician, ED Med Reconciliation is responsible for collecting various clinical data for processing home medication therapy for the ED Patient. They are responsible for interviewing the patient regarding their home medication therapy and verifying the information from various outside interactive software programs and retail pharmacies. They are then responsible for transferring this prescription medication information to the hospital computer system for the patient caregiver to access. They must be functional in data entry, report set up and editing utilizing the hospitals computer software. They are also responsible for functioning as a Pharmacy Technician by performing duties associated with medication preparation and distribution. Those duties consist of, but are not limited to: Aseptic preparation of IV admixtures in compliance with departmental, hospital and licensing agency standards, filling and distributing medications through first fill, cart fill and/or Automated Drug Systems. They must maintain functional usage of the hospital computer system as well as interfaced pharmacy systems. They will need to maintain the familiarity of a multitude of generic/trade name medications. They will need to perform Narcotic Distribution duties and automated dispensing medication refills. They must maintain the ability to fill oral prepackage syringes and use Medication Prepackage Machines ensuring Federal prepackaging guidelines are met.. They are responsible for maintaining active state licensure and National Pharmacy Technician Certification. They must maintain familiarity with JCAHO/DNV Standards for the Department of Pharmacy and remain compliant with the practices of a unit dose medication distribution system. All functions must be performed using excellent customer relation skills.
