Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Oncology

Job Summary

Responsible for direct patient care and multidisciplinary team support for oncology clinical research patients at inpatient units and outpatient infusion sites. The role covers oncology solid tumor clinics, reviewing clinical trial protocols, developing guidelines, supporting clinical staff, coordinating care transitions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and participating in quality improvement, education, and research activities.

Experience and Education

  • PGY1 and PGY2 from an ASHP-accredited residency, or PGY1 with 5+ years of specialty practice, or 8+ years of progressive clinical experience in the specialty.
  • Bachelor of Science or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited school.
  • Eligible for Texas State Board of Pharmacy licensure; license required within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by start date.
  • Proficient in computer skills and data entry; fluent in English.
  • Good health and stress management ability.
  • Moderate physical effort required, including standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs., reaching, and bending.

Job Duties

  • Perform responsibilities in line with policies, performance improvement, and infection control standards.
  • Develop and implement processes to meet regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate staff training, certifications, and education.
  • Assist with therapeutic monitoring, patient assessments, lab interpretation, and pharmacokinetics.
  • Engage in clinical activities such as cost-saving initiatives, quality projects, presentations, and research submissions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, education, and training programs.
  • Manage formulary and participate in P&T activities, including review and development of drug monographs.
  • Mentor staff pharmacists, delegate tasks, and evaluate performance.
  • Represent the department at meetings, perform accurate order entry, and review medication profiles.
  • Ensure confidentiality, communicate effectively, and support teamwork.
  • Maintain flexibility, professionalism, and adherence to safety and compliance policies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Mentoring and delegation skills.
  • Representation at committee meetings.
  • Proficiency in order entry, medication review, and documentation.
  • Active participation in educational and training activities.

Working Conditions

Primarily in hospital and outpatient clinics at William P. Clements University Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, or UTSW clinics.

Security

Qualifications may be considered equivalent with prior approval. The position is security-sensitive, subject to criminal background checks per Texas Education Code 51.215.
