Job summary

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking an analytical chemist in Montgomery County, MD. This GS-12, full-time, permanent position focuses on developing and validating LC-MS/MS methods for quantitative analysis in clinical pharmacology research, with responsibility for instrument maintenance, data interpretation, and regulatory-compliant documentation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering with 30 semester hours in chemistry and math through calculus; physics 6+ semester hours.
Experience demonstrating ability to develop or adapt quantitative chromatographic methods and perform LC-MS/MS analyses.
Must have specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-11, including method validation, data reporting, and SOPs.

Responsibilities

Develop, validate, transfer, and apply LC-MS/MS methods for drugs and metabolites in biological samples.
Operate and troubleshoot HPLC/UHPLC and MS systems, assess sensitivity and matrix effects.
Prepare calibration standards, QC samples, and data reports; ensure QA compliance and traceability.
Coordinate specimen receipt, storage, and disposition; train lab staff as needed.
Maintain SOPs and documentation per FDA/EMA guidance and ICH M10.
