  • Ability to interpret clinical data and monitor drug interactions.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fills prescriptions in accordance with scope of professional license and ensures proper recordation of drug use including ordering, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances.
  • Prepares intravenous admixture solutions, ensuring compatibility and stability of various additives in these specially compounded solutions.
  • Organizes daily operations of dispensing area and mentors pharmacy interns, technicians and students.
  • Advises physicians and nurses about drug interactions, incompatibilities, side effects, and instructions for drug administration.
  • Performs Medical Use Evaluations (MUE) and supports safe, effective and economical drug use within budget.
  • Participates in interviewing and hiring new employees, oversees orientation and training, provides performance feedback.

Under general supervision, facilitates the safe, effective and economic use of drugs in a fiscally responsible manner. Reviews prescriptions obtains clarification as necessary and regularly consults with medical staff, nursing personnel and others in order to coordinate delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services to Hospital patients.Education:Pharm D from an accredited college or university or BS in Pharmacy from an accredited pharmacy school, college or university with 0-3 years of experience.Licensures/Certifications:Current Maryland State Pharmacist License.Skills:• Thorough knowledge of current theory and practice of proper pharmacy services.• Knowledge of clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, adverse drug reactions and drug interactions and ability to interpret clinical laboratory data.• Skill in preparing intravenous admixture solutions such as parenteral nutrition formulations and chemotherapeutic agents.• Skill in data analysis and interpretation.• Ability or organize and prioritize the day-to-day activities to be most efficient when assigned to specific patient care units.• Skill in problem assessment and resolution.• Ability to coordinate the work of others when tasked.• Knowledge of personnel practices such as monitoring attendance, evaluating & improving performance, and handling employee complaints.• Skill in managing teams.• Skill in oral and written communication.• Good critical thinking skills.• Performs other duties as required.Patient & Workplace Safety:Employee has knowledge and understanding of patient and workforce safety as it relates to job duties.Patient Population:Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific needs if applicable.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Fills prescriptions in accordance with scope of professional license and ensures proper recordation of drug use including ordering, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances.• Prepares intravenous admixture solutions, ensuring compatibility and stability of various additives in these specially compounded solutions.• Organizes daily operations of assigned dispensing area and closely reviews work of pharmacy interns, technicians and perform the duties as a preceptor for pharmacy students• Advises physicians and nurses about drug interactions, incompatibilities, side effects, instructions for drug administration, and the matters pertaining to the optimum use of medications. Resolves any issues pertaining to medication use, clarifying orders, and providing drug information between patient care areas and the Pharmacy Department.• Performs MUE (Medical Use Evaluations).
