Responsibilities

  • Evaluates physician orders for accuracy, dosing, interactions, and appropriateness; communicates any issues to prescribers.
  • Compounds, packages, and dispenses medications including sterile products and IV admixtures per standards.
  • Monitors medication profiles, dosing, interactions, and overall clinical appropriateness.
  • Adheres to legal and institutional requirements for medication distribution and documentation.
  • Educates pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals; maintains licensure and professional development.
  • Performs medication reconciliation approvals and basic clinical functions (IV to EN conversions, renal dosing, pharmacokinetic dosing).
  • Supervises support staff; serves as charge pharmacist during shifts and assists with leadership issues.
  • Maintains intradepartmental communication and knowledge of policy and procedures.
