Job summary

RPC Company in Kennett Square, PA is seeking an experienced Sterile Compounding Pharmacist to lead sterile operations and ensure regulatory compliance. Job description

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Compounding Pharmacist with a minimum of 3 years of sterile compounding experience. This role is responsible for overseeing sterile compounding operations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards, supporting quality and patient safety initiatives, and supervising Pharmacy Technicians involved in sterile compounding activities.

Ideal Start Date: ASAP

Schedule: 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, with flexibility based on business needs

Daily Volume: Workload may vary based on prescription volume and business needs.

Team Structure: The Sterile Compounding Pharmacist will work alongside one additional Sterile Pharmacist on site and will oversee Pharmacy Technicians during sterile compounding operations.

PIC Presence: The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) is on site daily and communicates with the team regularly.

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT:
  • Ensure compounded sterile and non-sterile preparations are accurate and prepared in accordance with master formula worksheets.
  • Implement and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and compounding policies in collaboration with lead technicians to support patient safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> guidelines for non-sterile and sterile compounding.
  • Ensure cleaning, garbing, and aseptic technique policies are followed in accordance with company standards.
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations and complete required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Operate production equipment accurately and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in compounding practices through ongoing participation and adherence to compounding standards.
  • Ensure proper aseptic technique is consistently used throughout sterile compounding activities.
  • Prepare compounding work areas thoroughly prior to production.
  • Operate and monitor technical and computerized equipment while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure the quality, purity, and potency of compounded medications.
  • Conduct quality control checks and inspections to verify the accuracy of compounded preparations.
  • Stay current on compounding techniques, formulations, regulatory expectations, and emerging technologies.
  • Assist with research, development, and implementation of new formulations as needed.
  • Submit compounded batch samples to third-party laboratories for applicable testing when required.
  • Participate in continuous learning and professional development related to compounding pharmacy practices.
COMPLIANCE:
  • Ensure proper technique, accurate preparation, complete documentation, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations for pharmaceutical products dispensed.
  • Adhere to all SOPs, company policies, and guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Support maintenance of pharmacy licensure and accreditation related to compounding activities.
  • Work with the PIC and Quality Department to investigate deviations and support corrective actions as needed.
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly technician task completion and provide final sign-off verifying completion according to company compliance standards.
PATIENT CARE:
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and veterinarians, to develop appropriate compounded medications for patients.
  • Work closely with pharmacy technicians and other staff members to efficiently fulfill prescriptions.
  • Take part in shipping and handling of all prescription orders when needed.
  • Ensure prescription orders are processed according to prescriber requirements and patient needs.
  • Provides care by assessing patient demographics, reviewing and maintaining patient medication histories, and reviewing patient medication profiles.
  • Develops patient care plans to establish desired outcomes, develops therapeutic care plans, determines alternatives for achieving outcomes, and monitors patient outcomes.
  • Educates patients on and monitors drug therapy to evaluate the appropriateness of use, dosage form, regimen route, therapeutic duplication, and drug interactions.

  • Effectively communicates with patients, nurses, physicians, and co-workers to ensure the information on all prescriptions is correct.
  • Counsel patients on prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and nutritional supplements as appropriate.

  • Experience with PK's Compounder software is preferred but not required.

EDUCATION:

B.S. or PharmD degree from an accredited college of pharmacy required.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years of sterile compounding pharmacy experience required. Experience in a high-volume compounding environment is preferred.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Pennsylvania Pharmacist License required; licensure in additional states may be required based on business needs.
