Expected pay for this position is $18.98 - $22.34/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Pathology Laboratory Assistant performs various technical and clerical functions involving Clinical Pathology specimen handling and processing. Functions include specimen accessioning and patient demographic entry into the Laboratory Information System, accurate identification and labeling of specimens, review of submitted samples in order the assess and document quantity and quality of pre-analytic specimens and independent selection of optimal specimen processing technique based on requested testing. The CP Lab Assistant assists oncologists, providers, and lab technicians in the collection and preparation of bone marrow aspirate and core biopsies. The position is responsible for all internal and external specimen logistics within the laboratory and is required to maintain appropriate specimen storage pre and post analytic testing. The position also assists with preparing specimens for internal and external referral to specialty departments or reference laboratories, ensuring that testing material is available in a timely manner.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• High School Diploma/ GED.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

• Previous phlebotomy experience or training.
• 1-year laboratory experience or equivalent to Laboratory Assistant duties.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

• Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate labeling of patient specimens’
• Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation methods and evaluate suitability of specimens received.
• High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations
