Program Summary

The Baton Rouge General Clinical Pastoral Education Program is now accepting applications for the 2025-26 Chaplain Residency. The program is a 12-month full-time position where students serve as hospital employees while earning four (4) units of CPE training.

  • Residency Year: September 1, 2025 – September 16, 2026
  • Full Time Day Shift; Rotational Weekend Shifts and On Call required
  • Up to six (6) positions available
  • Compensation: $35,600 + Benefits

Description

The Resident participates actively in the CPE program, providing spiritual support to patients, families, and staff, and reflecting on these experiences with supervisors and peers. The program emphasizes developing pastoral skills, self-awareness, and professional growth following CPEI standards.

Essential Functions
  • Create a supportive environment aligned with BRG's vision and values.
  • Assess and address spiritual, emotional, needs of diverse patients and families.
  • Document visits and interventions thoroughly in EMR.
  • Provide crisis intervention and collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Support department goals for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Manage time effectively, minimize overtime, and assist team members.
  • Complete all educational and clinical assignments, engage in supervision, and work towards chaplaincy certification.
  • Follow the CPEI Code of Ethics.
  • Use Windows and Microsoft Office 365; learn additional computer systems as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Master's in Divinity or related field is preferred.
  • One CPE unit completed is desirable but not required.
  • Two years in pastoral ministry or related experience is preferred.
  • Good standing with faith group.
