Pioneer Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, essentially the county hospital for Sweet Grass County, Montana: Population 3700. We are in a beautiful valley along the Yellowstone River, between three mountain ranges, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We serve our neighbors (ranchers, skilled trades people and active retirees) and the many tourists who come here on their way to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, or to fish the Yellowstone, hike, bike, hunt or just get away from overcrowded places. Big Timber is a vibrant and welcoming small town, an hour from Bozeman and Billings. Our schools are highly rated, with high community support.

PURPOSE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Under general supervision of the Director and/or as assigned by the Registered Nurse, assists in the delivery of patient care. Utilizes the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, and theoretical/clinical skills in the promotion/maintenance of health. Incorporates evidence-based practices consistent with national standards and which support quality outcomes. Works collaboratively with the RN to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, spiritual needs of the patient and family, and contributes to the plan of care while maintaining professionalism.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with Pioneer Medical Center’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
  • Participates in the development of the strategy of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team by providing data; identifying priorities; setting realistic and measurable goals; identifying measures to maintain comfort, support human functions and response and maintain an environment conducive to well-being and provide health teaching.
  • Provides patient care by performing basic to semi-complex treatments with regard to the patient assignment and within the Paramedic scope of practice. Ensures complete, accurate and timely entry into patient medical record as indicated by patient condition and documentation guidelines, consistent with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Observes patients for physical and emotional reactions to medications and treatments, reporting any irregularities to appropriate medical and/or other nursing personnel.
  • Adheres to facility safety standards, policies, and practices. Anticipates and identifies problems and safety issues, then initiates appropriate action.
  • Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance
  • Identifies needs and sets goals for own professional growth and development; meets all system and departmental educational requirements.
  • Consideration is given to the appropriateness of care based on the population specific needs of the patient including age appropriate and cultural needs.
  • Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of patient care.
  • Demonstrates collaborative, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patients/ families, visitors, and the interdisciplinary team
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
  • Ensure patient/resident daily care performed by nursing assistant is consistent with departmental policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an approved program for paramedics
  • Current Montana state license as a paramedic required
  • Healthcare Provider CPR, ACLS, and PALS certification required.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge,
  • skills, and abilities will be considered
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Normal patient/resident care environment
  • Utilization of computers for clinical database systems.
  • May be required to work varying shifts, weekends and/or holidays. May be required to float to areas of need.
