The Position

At Roche/Genentech Pharma Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG), we aim to transform drug development and deliver 20 transformative medicines by 2029, addressing high-burden diseases. We seek a Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader to oversee our Immunology Portfolio, a senior leadership role responsible for strategy, execution, and enterprise collaboration.

PD's mission is to improve patients' lives worldwide through innovative medicines. We conduct global clinical trials, analyze results, monitor safety, and collaborate with regulatory bodies across various therapeutic areas, including Oncology, Hematology, Neurology, Immunology, and others. Our development centers are located in Basel, South San Francisco, Welwyn Garden City, Mississauga, and Shanghai, among other locations.

The Opportunity:

The Immunology Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader at Roche/Genentech is accountable for the strategy and delivery of the Immunology portfolio. Responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and Refine Immunology Portfolio Strategy: Shape and iterate the clinical operations strategy aligning with the Clinical Development Plan and overall pharma strategy.
  2. Portfolio Oversight and Risk Management: Monitor portfolio status, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  3. Strategic Stakeholder Alignment and Leadership: Collaborate across functions, translate decisions into actionable strategies, and balance business needs with operational priorities.
  4. Drive Innovation and Operational Efficiency: Use analytical tools and innovative processes to enhance trial speed, quality, and patient-centric approaches, while optimizing budgets and success probabilities.
  5. Enterprise and External Engagement: Represent PDG in immunology-related discussions, build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including patient groups and health authorities.
  6. Leadership within the Portfolio Delivery Team: Serve on the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team, aligning priorities and decision-making.
  7. People Leadership and Team Development: Lead approximately 150 employees, including 10-12 direct reports, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
  8. Engagement and Administrative Oversight: Conduct performance assessments, coaching, and manage employment matters, promoting an inclusive and high-engagement environment.

Who you are:

  • 15+ years in pharmaceutical clinical operations, with at least 10 years in global strategy leadership; additional commercial experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of immune-mediated diseases and the global immunology landscape.
  • Understanding of global pharma clinical development processes.
  • Proven success in strategy development, data-driven decision-making, and expanding access to underserved populations.
  • Experience managing large, matrixed organizations and developing high-performing teams.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous. Willingness to travel internationally as needed.

This position can be based in Basel, Switzerland; South San Francisco, USA; Welwyn, England; or Mississauga, Canada, with expected campus presence as per local requirements. Relocation benefits are available.

The salary range for California is $227,600 - $422,600, with actual pay based on experience and other factors. An annual bonus and benefits are also available.
