Job summary

University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Practice Specialist to join the Oncology Pharmacy team. The role acts as the operational team lead for the clinical cancer center pharmacy, coordinating with the pharmacist manager to deliver education, medication dispensing and monitoring for patients in infusion areas and oncology clinics.

The position includes serving as a liaison for oncology services across UI Health Care locations, supervising staff, and guiding

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency required or 2 years’ experience in a complex multi-disciplinary healthcare environment with an oncology focus.
• Desirable PGY2 residency in Ambulatory Care or Oncology; board certification in Oncology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide medication order review and evaluation, therapeutic drug monitoring and chemotherapy protocol review.
• Provide in-depth patient education on new chemotherapy regimens.
• Oversee distribution of patient-specific medications and prepare sterile compounds including hazardous antineoplastic items.
• Dispense take-home medications and consult with patients on OTC medications; collect payment using POS system.
• Comprehensive patient assessment including medication history, physical assessment, and lab value review.
