Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park, IL is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist for the Abbvie Cancer Pavilion. You will oversee safe, effective medication therapy for oncology patients, supervise technicians, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize cancer care.

The role requires ACPE‑accredited PharmD, Illinois licensure within 60 days, and PGY-1 residency or 3+ years hospital experience. Oncology pharmacy experience preferred; sign-on bonus available.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
• Doctor of Pharmacy or other advanced degree highly preferred.
• Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Illinois (complete licensure within 60 days).
• Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency required or 3+ years hospital staffing experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with JCAHO, ASHP guidelines, and applicable laws and policies.
• Interpret, evaluate, and dispense drug orders with attention to safety and effectiveness.
• Identify and resolve drug-related problems and propose rational alternatives.
• Verify orders in the pharmacy system and input orders if needed.
• Check medications prior to dispensing and coordinate home infusion workflow.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and oversee workflow.
• Participate in orientation and mentoring of new staff.
• Perform other duties as requested by senior management.

Join University of Chicago Medicine, as a Clinical Pharmacist in the new Abbvie Cancer Pavillion, located in Hyde Park Illinois . In this role as a Clinical Pharmacist, you will assume responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy intended for the delivery of cancer care. The Cancer Pavillion will have a large oncology pharmacy, providing complex care to both inpatient and ambulatory infusion patients.

Job Summary

Responsible and accountable for the provision of safe and effective drug therapy and other pharmaceutical care services intended to achieve outcomes related to the cure, diagnosis or prevention of disease, elimination or reduction of patient's symptoms, or arresting or slowing of a disease process, and improve a patient's quality of life in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. The pharmacist also assumes the responsibility for pharmacy technicians that work directly under his/her supervision by ensuring the proper preparation of drug products and managing the workflow.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintains a standard of performance that is in compliance with JCAHO, ASHP practice standards/guidelines, federal/state licensing acts, and UCH and Pharmaceutical Services Policies and Procedures
• Interprets, evaluates, and accurately dispenses all drug orders in the patient's best interest as assessed by appropriateness of drug selection, contraindications, dose, side effects, drug interactions, food interactions, duration of therapy, route of administration, and cost
• Identifies, resolves and prevents potential and actual drug-related problems. Recommend rational therapeutic alternatives as needed to prevent future problems
• Accurately checks medication orders that have been entered into the pharmacy computer system by the pharmacy technician: ensuring that patient allergies, drug duplication, and drug interactions do not exist which contraindicate therapy and that the drug dose is correct. Enter orders directly into computer system if necessary
• Checks all medications prior to dispensing for accurate labeling, preparation, and storage. Coordinates all clinical and dispensing workflow that occurs from the home infusion pharmacy
• Supervises the quality/quantity of work and work performance of the pharmacy technician
• Participation in the orientation, education, and mentoring of new staff (i.e. pharmacists, nurses, pharmacy technicians, etc.) as needed
• Performs other duties as requested by senior management

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
• Doctor of Pharmacy or other advanced degree highly preferred
• Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois (complete licensure process within 60 days of employment).
• Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency required or 3 plus years of hospital staffing experience. Oncology .

• Advanced Degree, Master of Science, MBA, or Doctor of Pharmacy
• Clinical pharmacy experience
• Extensive clinical experience and development may be considered in lieu of formal training
