Job summary

The Institute for Family Health in New York seeks a Medical Office Assistant to support patient care at the Harlem Health Center and CASES site. The role reports to an LPN/RN and focuses on essential front-line tasks, patient data collection, and ensuring smooth clinic operations.

Responsibilities include measuring vitals, performing EKGs, assisting with procedures, maintaining charts, and upholding compliance and patient-centered care with a compassionate, bilingual approach where applicable.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate from an accredited medical assistant school required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish preferred.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in auditory testing, visual testing, EKG, venipuncture and taking vitals.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
  • Current Infection Control Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in direct patient care under supervision of an RN/LPN.
  • Performs heights, weights, and head circumference measurements.
  • Performs electrocardiograms (EKG).
  • Assists with medical procedures (sigmoidoscopies, colposcopy, biopsies).
  • Maintains patient charts/clinic logs and databases.
  • Collects specimens.
  • Maintains clean and orderly examination rooms.
  • Manages time and resources to meet goals.
  • Adheres to regulatory/licensure and health assessment requirements.
  • Observes compliance policies and delivers respectful, patient-centered care.
