Job description

The Clinical Nursing Improvement Specialist uses the nursing process, critical thinking, clinical workflow expertise, analytics, and change management strategies to identify and facilitate the improvement and adoption of clinical information systems and technologies that support and improve the patient, family, and clinician’s experience. The Specialist drives the optimal, efficient, and effective use of systems related to patient care, safety, user satisfaction, clinical productivity, and quality outcomes. Reporting to the Director of Nursing Professional Practice, Specialty Services & Infection Control, the Specialist serves as a primary liaison between clinical care teams, nursing operations, information services departments, and other healthcare specialties to lead and facilitate innovative solutions that support optimal clinical care. The Specialist identifies opportunities and facilitates the implementation of solutions utilizing evidence-based practice, data, regulatory requirements, and quality improvement techniques.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Required

Master of Science in Nursing - Preferred

Experience

5-7 Years of recent Acute Care nursing experience - Required

Project Management, Clinical Quality, and Data Analysis experience – Required

Nursing Professional Development, Informatics or Leadership experience - Required

License & Certification

Registered Nurse License with State of Practice - Required

National Nursing Certification (NI-BC or equivalent) must be obtained within 6 months of eligibility

Core Job Functions

  • Leads and coordinates teams and projects related to effective clinical documentation and workflow to design and implement best practice processes that support and improve patient and nursing outcomes.
  • Uses data to drive improvement processes and workflows concerning the efficient use of electronic health records and clinical technologies, employing industry-standard tools (e.g., swim lane diagrams, value stream mapping, gap analysis) to ensure solutions meet strategic goals and integrate into workflows.
  • Evaluates methods for information systems implementation, acceptance, utilization, and optimization for clinical decision-making, including documentation burden, surveillance, data visualization, and predictive modeling.
  • Serves as an expert consultant and resource for clinicians, providers, operational leaders, and stakeholders to educate, inform, and implement practice changes, ensuring alignment with nursing practice, documentation, regulatory requirements, and policies during improvement development.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders using excellent written and verbal skills, acting as a change agent to promote high-quality programs and resources, considering financial and organizational goals when recommending technologies and practices.
