Salary: The previously determined range for this position was $34.36/hr to $76.13/hr*. Final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date. (RNs only)

The Clinical Nurse Consultant II facilitates patient care using the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model. Responsibilities include providing patient care, staff education, acting as a clinical role model, and improving patient outcomes through evidence-based practices and nursing standards. The role involves monitoring and developing nursing practice, fostering therapeutic relationships, and organizational goal achievement.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Complete required orientation and competencies.
  2. Mentor staff in care planning and assessment.
  3. Collaborate to improve outcomes using clinical expertise.
  4. Serve as primary contact for patients, coordinating care across specialties.
  5. Implement physician orders, document accurately.
  6. Develop patient education plans based on clinical information.
  7. Recognize symptoms, prioritize, and respond to patient needs.
  8. Educate patients about lung cancer screening, benefits, and risks.
  9. Manage referrals and coordinate diagnostic and treatment appointments.
  10. Delegate tasks per Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, support staff.
  11. Promote teamwork, safety, patient satisfaction, and a therapeutic environment.
  12. Participate in community awareness events and build partnerships for early detection initiatives.
  13. Provide educational resources on lung health and screening.

Professional/Leadership

  1. Advocate for patients, families, community, and nursing.
  2. Help patients navigate barriers to care.
  3. Assist in daily unit management.
  4. Apply research, standards, and clinical experience for quality care.
  5. Support shared leadership and participate in organizational activities.
  6. Maintain licensure, certifications, and seek skill enhancement.

  8. Monitor and follow up on screening and diagnostic processes.
  9. Manage program databases and generate reports.
  10. Participate in research projects on lung cancer screening.
  11. Pursue ongoing professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Eligibility for Illinois RN registration.
  • Two years RN experience.
  • Current BLS/CPR and other certifications.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills, proficiency in EHR.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous pulmonary or oncology nursing experience.
