Job summary

Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, IL seeks a Clinical Nursing Supervisor (RN) for the Intermediate Care / Stepdown unit. This full-time night role combines leadership with hands-on patient care to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes.

You will oversee staffing, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement, with collaboration across physicians and care teams, and provide mentorship to nursing staff while maintaining RN scope.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.
• Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire and maintain current.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and operational oversight for an assigned acute care unit, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Oversees daily operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and staff development.
• In the absence of department leadership, assumes responsibility for unit operations and provides direct patient care as needed.
• Lead daily nursing operations and supervise clinical staff.
• Ensure quality patient care, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, workflow, and resource utilization.
• Coach, mentor, train, and evaluate nursing staff.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
• Drive quality improvement and operational excellence.
• Serve as unit leader in the absence of the Director or Nurse Manager.
• Provide direct patient care as needed within RN scope of practice.

Clinical Nursing Supervisor (RN) | Nursing Supervisor | Acute Care Hospital | Chicago, IL

Department: Intermediate Care / Stepdown

Schedule: Full Time - Nights |7p-7a| 3-12-hour shifts

Compensation: $36.75–$55.70/hour (approximately $441.00–$668.40 gross per 12-hour shift), commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

• The Clinical Nursing Supervisor (RN) provides leadership and operational oversight for an assigned acute care unit, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Working closely with the Director and Nurse Manager, the Clinical Supervisor oversees daily operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and staff development.
• In the absence of department leadership, the Clinical Nursing Supervisor assumes responsibility for unit operations and provides direct patient care as needed.
• Lead daily nursing operations and supervise clinical staff.
• Ensure quality patient care, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.

• Professional Certification within 2 years of hire, preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $36.75 to $55.70 per hour. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
