Clinical Nurse (RN) - Neurosurgical/Trauma Unit (R6)

For a limited time, MaineHealth is offering up to $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible experienced Registered Nurses with 1-2 years of experience and $20,000 for those with more than 2 years of experience!

· Eligible candidates are hired into a full or part-time RN position. Bonus amount is prorated for part-time hires; per diem hires are ineligible.

· Current MaineHealth employees are ineligible; former employees are ineligible until more than 6 months of separation.

The R6 unit is a 24-bed neurosurgical/trauma unit with a 9-bed neuro-focused Intermediate Care Unit (IMC). Bean 2 is a fast-paced 12-bed Total Joint Center. This role offers an opportunity to care for a diverse patient population in a collaborative environment.

The R6 patient population includes adults and older adolescents with neurological and orthopedic conditions such as head injuries, strokes, brain tumors, seizure disorders, multi-trauma, and neurosurgical interventions. RNs in the IMC demonstrate assessment and critical thinking skills, managing patients with multi-system issues requiring telemetry, intracranial pressure monitoring, medication drips, and higher acuity care.

Bean 2 serves adults post-joint replacement surgeries, supporting Maine's nationally recognized joint replacement program. The RN coordinates care milestones to ensure safe and timely discharges, with high patient satisfaction scores.

The environment emphasizes teamwork, communication, a positive attitude, and proactive care. As a teaching unit, it welcomes new graduate RNs and learners, fostering a supportive, collaborative learning environment. Nurses, PCTs, and CNAs work closely to meet patient needs and uphold high standards of care.

This is a full-time night shift position, working 3, 12-hour shifts per week.

Position Summary

The Clinical Nurse supports Maine Medical Center's mission by demonstrating excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient- and family-centered care, community commitment, and accountability. The nurse is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating nursing care, following national standards and organizational policies. Care may be provided across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

Minimum Requirements (KSAs)

  • Education: BSN preferred; must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year of hire and complete within 5 years. Ongoing education of 10 hours annually required.
  • License/Certifications: Current Maine RN license; relevant specialty certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year RN experience.
  • Basic knowledge of nursing principles; neuro or telemetry experience preferred; IMC experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Analytical skills to monitor patient changes and initiate appropriate responses.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations effectively.
  • Compassionate nursing practice promoting healing.
  • Technical skills to care for diverse patient populations on the unit.
