Job summary

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is seeking Registered Nurses to join a learning and growing team on the 2100 Inpatient Unit (Orthopedic, Spine, Urology and Plastic Surgery). The role is evening shifts (3/12), with every 4th weekend and one summer/winter holiday annually.

Barnes Jewish West County Hospital offers specialized surgical and medical services in a healing environment. We are looking for Registered Nurses that can become part of a learning and growing team! The 2100 Inpatient Unit at BJWCH consists of Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. It is a short-stay unit that strives to provide our patients with an exceptional post-operative experience in order for them to discharge home safely.

Job Details:

• 3/12 hour evening shifts
  • 3P-11:30P
  • Every 4th weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
  • One summer and one winter holiday per year

Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics and other general post-surgical conditions. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. Additionally, the unit works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
