Job summary

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse for the 2100 Inpatient Unit, which covers Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. This short-stay unit emphasizes an exceptional post-operative experience and safe discharge home.

The role offers three 8-hour evening shifts per week, with every fourth weekend and holiday rotation. The BJC RN Career Ladder supports professional development and pay progression as you advance.

Qualifications

• Direct patient care of post-operative patients following orthopedic, spine, urological and plastics procedures.
• Completion of nursing education and licensure as an RN.
• 1 year RN experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on illness/injury management, home care and medications.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics and other general post-surgical conditions. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. Additionally, the unit works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Participates in professional development.Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.

Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
