Job summary

etch is seeking a clinical mentor to support pediatric ED nursing staff, guiding real-time decision-making and clinical skill development. You will focus on growth, patient safety, and quality improvement, acting as a knowledgeable resource for the team.

The role emphasizes mentoring through formal and informal training on procedures, protocols, and best practices, with emphasis on safety, cost-aware care, and professional conduct across shifts.

Responsibilities

• Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the healthcare needs of patients and formulates nursing diagnoses based on the analysis of that assessment data, and documents data in a concise and timely manner.
• Develops and follows a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
• Identifies expected outcomes for the plan of care individualized to the child, family, and situation.
• Ensures that the implementation and coordination of care is systematic and ongoing; and that interventions are consistent with the established plan of care.
• Evaluates progress toward the attainment of outcomes.
• Collaborates with the patient, family, and provider in the conduct of nursing practice. All decisions and actions are on behalf of the patient and family and in all areas of practice are determined in an ethical manner.
• Integrates research findings into practice and, where appropriate, participates in the generation of new knowledge in innovative ways. Collaborates with unit educators in the development of material for skills days.
• Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing practice.
• Clinical Mentor provides formal and informal training on clinical procedures, protocols, and best practices, according to the Departments policies and procedures. Provides education and guidance on Department-specific protocols and procedures (ED Standing orders, Nitrous administration, Conscious Sedation, Time Sensitive patient care).
• Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact on practice in planning and delivering care.
• Clinical Mentor will help new staff develop their clinical skills and competence, focusing on areas where they may need further development. The Clinical Mentor serves as a leader in the practice setting and in the profession, demonstrating professionalism, ethical behavior, and a commitment to safe patient care.

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Mentors staff on individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. A knowledgeable resource that is readily available for real-time mentorship. Focuses on the clinical growth of nurses, improving critical thinking skills, maintaining patient safety, and quality improvement.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Supervisory Responsibilities: NO
• Minimum Education: Bachelors Required
• Degree: Bachelors Required
• License/Certification Required: TN or Compact RN licensure, BLS and PALS required; ACLS, TNCC and ENPC, where applicable
• Minimum Work Experience: Pediatric experience required and 2 years of Emergency Department experience if working in the department

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
