POSITION SUMMARY

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Host Associate. In this role, the successful candidate will operate within the Food and Nutrition Services Department under the direction of Patient Services Management. The Host Associate is responsible for enhancing the quality of care by creating an atmosphere of hospitality throughout the patient's hospital stay.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Remains available to patients at meal times to ensure patient satisfaction by confirming correct orders and quick tray delivery.
  2. Maintains a safe, clean, and functional work environment.
  3. Maintains a professional appearance and communicates courteously, demonstrating good customer service skills.
  4. Attends training classes and meetings as directed.
  5. Maintains patient confidentiality as required by NYULMC.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  7. Reviews patient census information, explains menu selections, and liaises with Patient Services for meal setup.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Core Values: Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence, and incorporates them into duties. Maintains positive guest relations and cooperative relationships with patients, co-workers, and multidisciplinary team members.
  9. Consults with Nutritionist and Supervisor regarding each patient's dietary needs and any changes in patient status.
  10. Informs supervisor of any special dietary requests.
  11. Enters patient meal preferences using Room Service Choice on a hand-held tablet, and maintains familiarity with the menu to answer patient questions.
  12. Assembles trays with selected menu items and assists in serving hot food as needed.
  13. Delivers meal trays to patient care units and bedside.
  14. Retrieves soiled trays and returns food trucks to the kitchen.
  15. Keeps track of menu tallies and totals, updates menus, and manages discharges to ensure timely meal service.
  16. Checks and restocks floor supplies.
  17. Answers phones promptly and courteously, recording calls as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college or higher preferred. Must be fluent in English; bilingual skills are a plus. Basic math, grammar, computer, and keyboarding skills required. Strong interpersonal skills and service recovery abilities are necessary for effective interaction with patients, families, staff, and colleagues. Ability to walk to assigned nursing units multiple times daily. Experience with hospital Food Service menu processing is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
