Job description

Overview

The Clinical Nurse Manager, working with Nurse Managers, is accountable for supervising nursing services for specific units to ensure safe, effective, and efficient care. This role is part of the Management Team, responsible for assigning, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care within the units. Performance is measured against objective criteria, including staff competence and ability to deliver quality care.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Developing, implementing, and evaluating unit goals, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  2. Overseeing activities of unit staff to meet quality, satisfaction, cost, and compliance objectives.
  3. Integrating total quality management principles into operations.
  4. Assigning work and monitoring staff performance to meet patient care goals.
  5. Planning staff assignments based on competency and patient needs.
  6. Facilitating effective communication among staff, physicians, and other departments.
  7. Maintaining proficiency with relevant technologies and recommending new services or equipment.
  8. Managing personnel processes including interviewing, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating staff, in accordance with policies.
  9. Ensuring staff receive appropriate orientation and ongoing training.
  10. Maintaining personnel records and developing work schedules.
  11. Managing labor relations activities within the unit.
  12. Participating in budget preparation, reporting, and policy development.
  13. Applying clinical expertise and serving as a role model, including direct patient care as needed.
  14. Overseeing patient care delivery, including emergency response, staff training, and equipment management, to ensure safety and quality.
Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a current, unrestricted license in the assigned state. A BSN or MSN is preferred. Candidates should have at least two (2) years of relevant experience, with five (5) years preferred, demonstrating management potential and clinical proficiency.
