Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse II (RN) to provide direct patient care on the night shift in Washington, DC. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care while mentoring peers and contributing to quality initiatives.

The role requires an active DC RN license, BLS/ACLS, and at least one year of clinical nursing experience. A BSN is preferred, and orientation includes mentorship and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program.
• BSN preferred.
• Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience.
• Active RN license in the District of Columbia.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Educate patients and families to support understanding, recovery, and continuity of care.
• Accurately document patient care and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to meet patient care goals.
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and shared governance activities.
• Follow infection prevention, medication administration, and patient safety protocols.
• Maintain professional development through education, training, and clinical mentorship.
• May serve as Charge Nurse following successful completion of orientation and manager approval.

Clinical Nurse II (RN)

Role Summary

The Clinical Nurse I (CN II) provides direct patient care across the continuum of care while developing clinical judgment, technical skills, and professional practice. This role is designed for early-career nurses who are committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care within a collaborative, team-based environment.

What You’ll Do

Education

Pay + Schedule

• Classification: Non-Exempt
• Union Grade: DCNA – CNII
• Schedule: This position is full time, three 12-hour shifts per week on Nights 7:30 pm-8:00 am; every other weekend rotating and holidays as needed

This position is covered under the DC Nurses Association (DCNA) collective bargaining agreement. Base pay range: $37.89–$63.36/hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications per the DCNA wage scale.

A unit premium applies to all hours worked in this unit.

Additional compensation may include a night shift differential for qualifying evening/night shifts and a weekend differential for qualifying weekend shifts.
