Job summary

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian seeks a Clinical Nurse II - Critical Care to provide direct patient care in Neuro ICU, CCU and Sub ICU, following the Nurse Practice Act and evidence-based practices.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, performing assessments, administering medications, managing pain, and addressing nutrition and discharge needs, while contributing to unit practice councils and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred; one year nursing experience required.
• ECG test required for units with telemetry monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in Neuro ICU, CCU, and Sub ICU according to Nurse Practice Act.
• Perform physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, and medication administrations.
• Meet nutritional needs, discharge teaching, and participate in evidence-based nursing processes.
• Collaborate with the care team and confer with resources on ethical/legal/medical decisions.

The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the Clinical Nurse II is involved in Hoag Committee/Council with at least 50% attendance, communicates quarterly to UPC (Unit Practice Council) on committee/council work, and completes three supplemental activities a year.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Clinical Nurse II’s at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program.

BSN Preferred. One Year Nursing Experience Required.

Successfully pass ECG test required only for units with telemetry monitoring.

Additional Requirements For Specific Departments Are As Follows

• CCU: Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation. Successful completion of ECG test required. Critical Care and Open Heart experience preferred. In addition, HHI CCU will fulfill mandatory stroke education requirements per certification.
• Irvine ICU: Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation. Successful completion of ECG test required. Critical Care experience preferred. Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification.
• Neuro: Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation. Successful completion of ECG test required. Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification. Previous Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care experience, previous sheath pull experience, previous fem-stop and closure device experience preferred.
• Sub ICU: Successful completion of an ECG course or equivalency required. Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation. Previous Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care experience, previous sheath pull experience, previous fem-stop and closure device experience preferred.
• Surgical Neuro ICU: Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation. Successful completion of ECG test required. Critical Care experience preferred.

License Required

• Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
