Job description

Clinical Nurse II - Invasive Specialist - (Cardiac Cath Lab Experience Required)

Under general supervision, assists the radiologist and cardiologist in the Interventional Radiology/Cardiac Catheterization Lab in performing invasive procedures and providing a safe environment for patients. Shares responsibility for acquiring and processing advanced imaging and operating equipment (excluding fluoroscopy) in the lab. Responsible for medication administration, assisting with conscious sedation, and participating in monitoring, scrubbing, and circulating duties. Reports directly to the Director of Cardiovascular Services and performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Note: Employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual.

  • Assist and advocate for patients with other healthcare providers.
  • Monitor patients, including hemodynamic data, ECG, and angiographic data; recognize and report changes promptly.
  • Record, store, retrieve, and analyze data from procedures.
  • Prepare radiologic and laboratory equipment, maintaining aseptic/sterile techniques, and troubleshoot within scope.
  • Participate in on-call duties, responding within 30 minutes for emergencies.
  • Apply ACLS protocols and emergency medications during critical situations.
  • Communicate with physicians and departments to exchange patient information; develop and evaluate nursing care plans.
  • Work collaboratively with the interventional team, including cardiologists, radiologists, nurses, and technicians.
  • Assist as a Scrub Assistant, ensuring sterile technique and adequate supplies.
  • Supervise and ensure quality of care provided by team members; act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Promote a safe, healthful, and therapeutic environment, ensuring infection control.
  • Participate in implementing care standards, infection control, and quality assurance; assist in studies and meetings.
  • Perform pre-, intra-, and post-procedure assessments, and assist physicians as needed.
  • Administer medications and monitor patient safety during procedures involving moderate sedation.
  • Ensure patient safety during procedures and in recovery, including gathering equipment and providing ACLS interventions.
  • Provide patient education and post-procedure assessments.
  • Assist physicians with interventional procedures, demonstrating necessary technical skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: At least three years recent experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Lab, with interventional cardiology/STEMI preferred. One year must be within the last two years. Experience in interventional radiology is preferred.

Certifications: ACLS and BLS issued by AHA, valid California RN license, and RCIS or eligible within two years. RCIS exam must be passed within one year of eligibility.

PAY RANGE

$70.21 to $102.91 per hour

The pay range reflects the base pay scale at Alameda Health System. Final compensation depends on experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, collective bargaining agreements, and operational needs. Benefits are comprehensive and competitive.
