MedStar Georgetown University Hospital seeks an experienced Emergency Department Clinical Nurse Educator to provide educational leadership that supports excellence in nursing practice and aligns with Magnet standards. The role advances clinical competency, supports certification, and integrates evidence-based practice across nursing teams.

The ED is housed in the Verstandig Pavilion and serves 40,000+ patients yearly with private rooms and advanced technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Master's degree in Nursing Education or related field preferred.
• RN licensure in DC is required.
• Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification within 1 year preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as mentor, coach, and role model for nursing staff.
• Assess learning needs and design, implement, and evaluate education programs and unit-based orientation.
• Support certification and professional development, including specialty fellowship programs.
• Lead and participate in performance improvement, quality initiatives, and nursing research.
• Collaborate across interdisciplinary and academic partners to support clinical and educational objectives.

Our Emergency Department is staffed and equipped to care for over 40,000 patients a year ranging from newborn to end of life. Our metropolitan ED provides high quality care to a wide variety of patients, including adult and pediatric patients from the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Additionally, MedStar Georgetown is accredited by the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and receives acute stroke patients from all around the DC region. All the nurses in the Emergency Department are certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and are NIH Stroke Certified and many also have their CEN, TNCC, and ENPC certifications. ED Nursing Leadership supports and encourages nurses to enhance their educational expertise and professional development. MedStar Georgetown’s Emergency Department prides itself on its teamwork, collaborative governance and decision making which creates and implements new ideas centered on evidenced based practice.

This role is essential in advancing clinical competency, supporting certification, and integrating evidence-based practice throughout nursing teams.

Schedule

Monday – Friday Days

Key responsibilities include:

• Serving as a mentor, coach, and role model for nursing staff.
• Assessing staff learning needs and designing, implementing, and evaluating education programs and unit-based orientation.
• Supporting certification and professional development, including specialty fellowship programs.
• Leading and participating in performance improvement, quality initiatives, and nursing research.
• Collaborating across interdisciplinary and academic partners to support clinical and educational objectives and enhance practice environments.
• Promoting shared governance through active participation in nursing councils, committees, task forces, and system initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree in Nursing Education or other related field preferred

Experience

• 5-7 years nursing clinical experience preferred in Emergency Medicine
• 1-2 years 2 years in a university teaching hospital preferred
• Clinical education experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Cert Nurse Educator - CNE Certification in Nursing Education or clinical area within 1 Year required
• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current D.C. licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required
