Brighton BMC is seeking a Professional Development Nurse Educator – Generalist to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate nursing orientation for RNs, UAPs, and clinical staff. You will promote lifelong learning, patient safety, and quality improvement across the organization.

Job description

The Professional Development Nurse Educator – Generalist is responsible for the design, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nursing orientation and onboarding programs for newly hired Registered Nurses, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAPs), and other clinical staff across Brighton BMC.
Working collaboratively with Nursing Leadership, Human Resources, Clinical Operations, and the Professional Development Department, this position ensures newly hired staff successfully transition into practice through evidence-based orientation, competency validation, and ongoing professional development. The Nurse Educator promotes excellence in clinical practice, supports organizational initiatives, and fosters a culture of lifelong learning, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement.

Essential Responsibilities:
Orientation and Onboarding
  • Coordinate and lead hospital-wide orientation programs for newly hired Registered Nurses, UAPs, and other clinical personnel.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive onboarding plans.

  • Design and facilitate classroom, simulation, and competency-based learning.

  • Collaborate with department leaders to individualize orientation.

  • Monitor orientation progress and recommend transition to independent practice.

Education and Professional Development
  • Assess educational needs using quality metrics and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs utilizing adult learning principles.

  • Maintain competency validation processes.

  • Serve as an educational consultant to nursing leadership.

  • Support evidence-based practice and professional growth.

Regulatory and Accreditation
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, CMS, OSHA, and organizational standards.

  • Maintain documentation supporting survey readiness.

  • Assist with educational policy and competency development.

Instructor Responsibilities
  • Serve as an American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Instructor.

  • Maintain instructor status and teach certification courses.

  • Support emergency preparedness and simulation education.

Leadership and Collaboration
  • Partner with Nursing Leadership, Human Resources, and Talent Acquisition.

  • Participate in quality improvement and organizational committees.

  • Use outcome data to evaluate educational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or related field.

  • Current Massachusetts RN license.

  • 5 years of experience as a registered nurse

  • 2 years of experience in nursing professional development, clinical education, or onboarding/orientation.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating competency-based educational programs.

  • Experience onboarding nurses and UAPs in an acute care hospital

  • Current AHA BLS Instructor certification or ability to obtain within 1 year

  • Experience leading organization-wide educational initiatives.

  • Knowledge of Magnet principles and ANCC Nursing Professional Development standards.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple departments.

Physical and Work Requirements

Compensation Range:
$43.04- $101.35

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
