General Summary of Position Are you an experienced Wound Care Nurse looking for an opportunity to formally lead AND still want to work clinically with patients? The Clinical Nurse Coordinator role is a great position that allows you to remain close to patient care in an ambulatory setting and serve as a front-line nurse leader. As a Clinical Nurse Coordinator in the MedStar Wound Healing Institute at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this highly specialized field. Department Description MedStar Health's Wound Healing Institute atMedStar Georgetown University Hospital offers the most advanced wound care forcomplex or chronic sores, ulcers, and infections. Our comprehensive servicesrange from diabetes education and wound prevention to sophisticatedreconstructive surgeries that prevent limb loss. Our internally known woundhealing experts include specialists in plastic, podiatric, vascular, andreconstructive surgery as well as endocrinology, infectious disease,rheumatology, and internal medicine. Position Overview Facilitates the operational management and administration ofthose activities which promote the delivery of safe, efficient andtherapeutically effective care to an ambulatory population. Provides directand indirect patient care utilizing the nursing process to assist withpatient care for the program, under the supervision of the attendingphysicians. Provides patient and family education, facilitates QA/QI activities,in-service for nursing and non-nursing personnel, and assists with researchprotocols as indicated. These functions are performed in accordance with allapplicable laws and regulations and MGUH's philosophy, policies, proceduresand standards. Schedule Schedule is four days a week/ 10 hours a day. Key Responsibilities Coordinates and evaluates day to day patient care related operations of the department, coordinating and facilitating a variety of health care specialists within the department. Provides clinical expertise to staff, medical and nursing students, and patients. Provides education to nursing personnel and to GUH and local communities by offering in-service training. Provides patient care in a safe, efficient, and effective manner under the supervision of the attending physician. May participate in daily rounds. Reviews discharge orders and provide patients and families with education and instructions for post op care. Documents individualized nursing care for inpatients. Provides case management with approved discharge planning for individuals. Collaborates in the development of principles of patient care while maintaining communication with appropriate allied services and agencies. Promptly requests consults from other services when indicated. Makes referrals to appropriate agencies and/or support systems to facilitate patient well-being. Works with nursing administration and/or nursing service to facilitate and improve patient care. Serves as liaison for the Department program by attending assigned meetings as a representative of the department. Assists physicians with patient's history. Documents individualized nursing care for outpatients. Provides educational materials and instruction for patients and families regarding the diagnosis, treatment options and side effects, and prognosis.
