Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks an experienced RN to deliver hands-on patient care in the Bridgeport area. You’ll assess patients, assist with procedures, administer medications, and coordinate the plan of care with providers and teams.

The role requires an active RN license (or multi-state via eNLC), BLS within 30 days, and 2 years RN or 5 years LPN experience. BSN preferred with relevant specialty certification. Travel between locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state of services or multi-state license via eNLC.
• State and Federal background checks as required.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• Two years’ RN experience or five years’ LPN experience.
• BSN preferred; certification related to specialized care.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on nursing assistance per department needs and procedures.
• Act as first contact for patients, triaging and giving medical advice when needed.
• Coordinate care plans and liaise with providers, departments, and schedulers.
• Monitor appointments, testing, and labs for the patient population.
• Assist with obtaining prior-authorizations for patients.
• Educate patients; prepare educational materials on conditions, meds, or treatments.
• Provide nursing support for research activities when applicable.
• Advise and consult nursing staff across units caring for the same population.
• Attend conferences and training to stay current with knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Experience

• Two years’ experience as an RN OR five years’ experience as an LPN required.

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Bachelor's Degree in nursing(BSN).
• Certification relevant to the specialized care they will be providing.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides hands on assistance according to the department, patient and provider needs, including but not limited to assisting with procedures, performing tests, preparing or administering patient medications, obtaining specimens.
• Act as first contact for patients, providing triaging and medical advice where applicable.
• Coordinates the plan of care and acts as a liaison between providers, departments, other healthcare professionals and schedulers to coordinate testing, scheduling, referrals etc.
• Monitors and manages patient’s appointments, testing and labs necessary for the patient population.
• Assists with obtaining prior-authorizations for the patient population.
• Prepares educational material for patient use. Educates and counsels patients concerning medical condition, medication or treatment.
• Provides specialized nursing assistance in research efforts when applicable.
• Provides advice, education and consultation services to nursing staff of any unit that care for the same patient population
• Attends conferences or educational opportunities to ensure up to date knowledge.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking, carrying of patients, materials and equipment weighing 35+lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Position is frequently exposed to blood and bodily fluids; possible exposure to harmful toxins. There is regular exposure to communicable disease.
• Travel may be necessary in departments with multiple locations.
