Qualifications

Job Description

The Apheresis Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Based on the NMH practice framework, the registered nurse (RN) is responsible for providing evidence-based, clinically competent care for a designated patient group, including diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN participates in decision-making, education, mentoring, and collaboration to improve patient outcomes and unit operations, embodying the values of Northwestern Memorial.

Responsibilities
  • Perform emergent or scheduled urgent procedures during on-call hours (8pm-7:30am, weekends, holidays).
  • Provide on-call coverage as scheduled.
  • Perform apheresis procedures in ambulatory and inpatient settings.
  • Assess patients pre, during, and post-procedure for complications and notify providers as needed.
  • Deliver safe, effective care promptly.
  • Document procedures accurately in Epic.
  • Ensure all consents and education are completed prior to procedures.
  • Maintain equipment, disinfect surfaces, and prepare supplies per policy.
  • Assist with inventory control and maintain supplies.
  • Complete assigned daily tasks promptly.
  • Serve as a resource and assist with training staff.
  • Follow SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize assistive devices for patient care.
  • Move patients and equipment safely.
  • Prioritize patient care and adapt to changing situations.
  • Complete required trainings and competencies in cellular therapies and clinical trials.
  • Perform cellular therapy collections and infusions independently.
  • Maintain chain-of-custody for human tissue products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Graduate from an NLN-accredited nursing program.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher.
  • Current Illinois RN license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and human relation skills.
  • Proficiency with keyboard data entry.
Preferred:
  • Experience in specific clinical areas.
  • Nursing specialty certification, if eligible.
