Clinical Nurse 2- MICU Inpatient- FT Night - Penn Presbyterian

The MICU at PPMC is a 16-bed unit focusing on performance improvement and evidence-based practice. The team includes MDs, RNs, secretaries, and ancillary staff working collaboratively. Interdisciplinary rounds occur twice daily. The patient ratio is typically 1:1 or 1:2.

Patients may present with diverse morbidities, including respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation, multi-system organ failure/sepsis, renal failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, pulmonary hypertension, and liver failure. Interventions may include CRRT, hemodynamic drips, and inhaled prostacycline. Nurses operate both collaboratively and autonomously, such as managing nurse-driven insulin protocols for DKA patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care as a full partner on the healthcare team, demonstrating safe practice within organizational standards.
  • Apply nursing knowledge, skills, and attitude to meet professional practice standards.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement, evidence-based practice, leadership, and team collaboration.
  • Coordinate care across the continuum, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-related factors.
  • Seek and provide feedback to improve clinical practice and demonstrate how nursing impacts organizational goals.
Credentials:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required, as per American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse license for PA required.
Education or Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution required.
  • At least 15 months of relevant professional nursing experience and completion of the Nurse Residency Program, if applicable.
