About the Labor & Delivery Department

The Labor & Delivery at Pennsylvania Hospital provides holistic, family-centered services to the childbearing population of the Tri-state area including Central and Southern New Jersey, Northern Delaware, and the Greater Philadelphia area and its suburbs.

Labor & Delivery (L&D) is a Level III, tertiary care facility, located on the third floor of the Preston Building, offering:

  • Management of uncomplicated pregnancies during labor, delivery, and recovery
  • Management of complicated pregnancies during labor, delivery, and recovery
  • Operative procedures including cesarean sections, hysterectomy, tubal ligation, and D&E
  • Antenatal testing such as BPP, NST, AFI, and ultrasound
  • Interruption of pregnancy for genetic indications via cerclage removal, dilation & evacuation, and prostaglandin induction
Role Overview

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is a registered nurse practicing as a full partner in the healthcare team, demonstrating safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. They possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude to meet professional nursing standards, work independently in patient care, and collaborate with the healthcare team to provide individualized, comprehensive care.

  • Apply professional practice competency domains including CQI, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork
  • Utilize data and quality improvement methods to enhance patient safety and care quality
  • Evaluate and incorporate current evidence into clinical practice
  • Engage in effective collaboration and innovative problem-solving within the care system
  • Recognize and respect patient and family preferences, values, and needs
  • Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning, ethical practice, and community outreach
  • Minimize risks and ensure safety for patients, families, providers, and self
  • Use appropriate information and technology tools for communication, knowledge management, and decision support
  • Participate actively in teamwork to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes
Credentials
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania required
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree required
  • Over 15 months of relevant professional nursing experience and completion of the Nurse Residency Program preferred
