Job description

Position Description:

A full-time medical physics position is immediately available for a Medical Physicist at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. The center is equipped with Varian 23iX linac with kV OBI/CBCT and Rapid Arc, Varian Halcyon linac, Elekta Nucletron system for Brachytherapy, Siemens Somatom Go Open Pro dual energy CT scanner for CT simulation, and Eclipse RTP with ARiA information system for treatment planning and management.

The center has a strong CT and MRI imaging-based HDR brachytherapy program and a Halcyon linac-based SBRT program, with a focus on research. Responsibilities include quality assurance testing, dosimetry calibration, SBRT and brachytherapy planning and delivery, IMRT clinical implementation, and 4D CT and gated radiation therapy. Participation in clinical research is expected. The candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas, with the ability to work independently and possess excellent communication skills. Board certification and at least three years of clinical experience are preferred but not required.

Facility and Equipment:

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is a leader in research and clinical radiation therapy, equipped with Varian linear accelerators, RefleXion X1, Elekta linear accelerators, Siemens and GE CT units, PET/CT simulators, Gamma Knife, Nucletron HDR systems, Varian VariSeed LDR prostate brachytherapy, Eclipse, Aria, and Mosaiq systems. All sites have integrated treatment planning systems for connectivity and remote planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation/consultation to Radiation Oncologists based on in-vivo dosimetry.
  • Disseminate current practices in Radiation Oncology Physics.
  • Collaborate on research within the Division of Medical Physics.
  • Manage in-vivo dose measurement and verification devices.
  • Assist in clinical Radiation Oncology Physics and dosimetry practices.
  • Design, fabricate, and measure treatment beam modifiers and aids.
  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of treatment equipment.
  • Consult on physical and radiobiological aspects of treatment.
  • Maintain quality assurance programs for tumor localization, radiation treatment, and dose accuracy.
  • Ensure systematic measurement and documentation of radiation sources/devices.
  • Develop treatment plans, manage data, calculate dose distributions, and set machine parameters.
  • Translate treatment plans into instructions for radiation therapists.
  • Develop performance specifications, testing protocols, and tolerances for therapy equipment.
