Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Medical Assistant II to support clinical and clerical activities in a Neurology clinic. You will escort patients, record vital signs, perform EKGs and phlebotomy, assist with injections, and help maintain medical records and equipment.

You’ll coordinate with clinicians and insurers to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care. The role requires a High School Diploma, BLS/HS certification, and a Medical Assistant credential, with potential for a signing

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS or Heart Saver certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; if not available on hire, must be obtained within 3 months.
• Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to examination rooms and records vital signs.
• Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care tests per clinic standards.
• May prepare and administer non-intravenous injections.
• Assists in routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
• Reviews lab results and flags abnormalities to clinicians.
• Communicates observations to licensed clinicians and prepares rooms as needed.
• Ensures instruments and scopes are cleaned and sterilized per protocol.
• Operates sterilization/cleaning systems when required.
• Assists with patient movement and transport following safety guidelines.
• Arranges patient arrivals and scheduling; assists admissions/discharges.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and initiates re-supply orders.
• Maintains medical records and data in EMR as required.
• Processes prescriptions and refills as directed.
• Performs clerical duties and documents in patient records per protocol.
• Collaborates with insurers for pre-authorizations and eligibility checks.
