Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL seeks a part-time Medical Assistant in the Hematology-Oncology department. The role supports physicians, nurses, and staff in ambulatory care, maintains patient flow, exam rooms, and basic skills including vital signs and injections.

The shift is 10 hours (7:00 AM–5:30 PM) with a total FTE between 0.5 and 0.89 and a $3,000 sign-on bonus. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, immunizations, EKGs, medication administration after competency, charting in

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification required upon hire (or verification if Rush Apprenticeship graduate).
• Current CPR certification required at start date.
• Computer skills required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Excellent customer service skills required.
• Excellent organizational skills required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
• Performs patient intake: vital signs, reason for visit, history, allergies, meds.
• Prepares patient for exam and supports provider with procedures.
• Reviews schedules and ensures patient charts are available for visit.
• Performs basic lab and testing procedures.
• Performs phlebotomy and EKGs.
• Administers immunizations as ordered.
• Documents administration and care in Epic per policy.
• Cleans and stocks exam rooms and workstations.
• Calls patients regarding test results and instructions.
• Orders medication refills under physician direction.
• Maintains inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
• Participates in quality improvement and ensures regulatory compliance.
