Clinical Manager Oncology Hematology BMT

The Manager, Clinical Service promotes family‑centered care by supporting Phoenix Children’s mission and values. This position manages, evaluates, and supervises operational functions and activities in the assigned area by guiding and supporting staff. The Manager also serves as a liaison with other departments to plan, implement, communicate, evaluate, and coordinate patient care operations across the enterprise, while also facilitating quick resolution of issues to ensure excellence in a family‑centered care environment.

Position Duties
Clinical Leadership
  • Maintains 24/7 accountability for patient care operations and supports unit needs with leadership presence 24/7.
  • Develops and implements the patient care philosophy, standards of practice, department goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides developmentally appropriate clinical care and participates in emergent situations.
  • Ensures nursing and technical personnel availability to meet fluctuating census, acuity, and budgetary goals, and implements recruitment, retention, and onboarding strategies.
  • Delivers high‑quality nursing care and ensures compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, state board of nursing, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Assumes bed‑manager responsibility in collaboration with the House Supervisor.
  • Stays current with best practices in nursing management, clinical knowledge, and Phoenix Children’s policies and procedures, serving as a clinical resource.
Human Resource Management
  • Manages all personnel administration, including recruitment, interviewing, and selection of professional, technical, and supervisory staff.
  • Implements strategies to foster high engagement, low turnover, and high staff satisfaction.
  • Assists staff with goal setting and performance development.
  • Evaluates staffing patterns, matches competency with acuity, and manages grievances in collaboration with leadership and HR.
  • Identifies key performance indicators, establishes data collection, evaluates performance data, and responds to outcome measurement findings.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Supervisors and the Clinical Education Specialist for orientation and ongoing professional development.
  • Participates in quality reviews and event analyses, using rounding, dashboards, and other modalities.
Financial Management
  • Monitors reimbursement and ensures accuracy of room accommodations and procedural charges.
  • Provides timely financial review and feedback to the management team.
  • Develops, secures approval for, and monitors revenue, expenses, and capital budget for the unit(s).
  • Reviews financial data monthly and implements strategies to ensure compliance with approved budgets.
  • Conducts ongoing productivity evaluation.
Strategic Management
  • Establishes and oversees unit‑based goals aligned with division and organizational priorities.
  • Supports growth of Phoenix Children’s and participates in program development and implementation as applicable.
  • Oversees direct and indirect care delivery for areas of responsibility.
  • Facilitates participation in medical staff, hospital, and patient care area committees.
  • Supports shared governance and a just culture.
  • Promotes unit‑based and system‑wide research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Influences nursing practice through participation in professional organizations.

Position Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing – Required
  • Master’s degree in a related field – Preferred
Experience
  • Five years of experience in the specialty area or with a pediatric patient population, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities – Required
Special Skills
  • Analytical and statistical skills to develop and monitor unit operating and personnel budgets – Required
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities to resolve complex clinical, systems, and personnel issues affecting the unit and inpatient departments – Required
  • Ability to assume 24‑hour accountability for unit coverage – Required
Additional Requirements
  • Current AZ RN license, or an RN license from a compact state with multistate privileges, or the ability to establish licensure under Arizona law prior to start date – Required
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association – Required
  • PALS certification from the American Heart Association within one year of hire – Preferred
  • National nursing or related certification (e.g., CPN, CCRN, CNML) – Preferred
