The Clinical Laboratory Technologist V is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, and complying with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory requirements. The work requires maintaining meticulous and organized records, excellent attention to detail, the ability to multitask, be flexible with tasks and schedules, and the ability to work independently in a team environment.

This position is open on the 2nd Shift - Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat 1:30 pm - 12:00 am EST.

Responsibilities :

  1. Perform tasks which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, with minimal supervision by the director or supervisor.
  2. Perform pre-analytical and analytical procedures including testing, quality control, preparation and aliquoting of reagents, analyses, and maintain records of tests according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures.
  3. Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  4. Adhere to laboratory’s quality assurance procedures, including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications, maintenance, and preventive maintenance.
  5. Follow the laboratory’s policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  6. Identify and document problems that may adversely affect test performance and notify the supervisor, assistant director, or director.
  7. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  8. Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment according to laboratory standard operating procedures.
  9. Troubleshoot and problem solve instrument issues.
  10. Check and record temperature and perform root cause analysis of deviations and initiate a service request as necessary.
  11. Review and interpret patient data as assigned.
  12. Perform and document reagent qualifications per the approved protocols.
  13. Perform and document routine preventive maintenance.
  14. Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures.
  15. Report all concerns of test quality and/or safety to the Laboratory Manager or Safety Officer.
  16. Communicate effectively with coworkers and non-laboratory personnel.
  17. Identify process improvement opportunities and report to laboratory management.
  18. Provide updates to Laboratory Supervisors / Leads regarding any issues.
  19. Monitor data and process status as needed.
  20. Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory cleanliness activities / procedures.
  21. Independently identify and troubleshoot minor problems that adversely affect the test performance.
  22. Assist in sample and process troubleshooting.
  23. Assist with training of new laboratory personnel and training of new procedures with existing personnel.
  24. Participate in introduction of assay improvements, new assay configurations, and validation.
  25. Participate in cross-functional teams responsible for securing CLIA certification, CAP accreditation, and state licensure for the GRAIL Clinical Laboratory, including compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
  26. Perform other laboratory duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications :

  1. Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or laboratory science from an accredited institution OR
  2. Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited institution and at least 6 months of acceptable supervised experience and/or relevant training.
  3. 3+ years of clinical lab experience.
  4. Experience in molecular biology techniques preferred.
  5. Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations preferred.
  6. Able to integrate and apply feedback professionally.
  7. Able to prioritize and drive results with a high emphasis on quality.
  8. Ability to work as part of a highly collaborative team.
  9. Ability to analyze and solve basic issues impacting assay performance.
  10. Proactive communication skills: clear, honest, and consistent.
  11. Ability to prioritize tasks with a focus on quality.
  12. Participation in projects and completing assignments as expected.
  13. Flexibility to meet operational needs.

Physical Demands and Working Environment :

  1. Hours and days may vary depending on operational needs.
  2. Standing or sitting for long periods may be necessary.
  3. Potential exposure to hazardous materials, blood specimens, and instruments with moving parts, heating or freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
  4. Repetitive manual pipetting may be necessary.
  5. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be necessary.
