Job Description

Guides lab tests in the area of Molecular Oncology - NGS. Performs clinical laboratory procedures, examinations, and tests according to established protocols, including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities. Exercises independent judgment and responsibility in examination performance.

Job Responsibilities

1. Sets up and performs a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests and procedures at the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
2. Prepares and tests specimens for NGS testing, capillary electrophoresis, and other PCR-based assays. Reviews and reports results.
3. Follows established in-process quality control procedures, including recording data.
4. Performs routine and preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
5. Troubleshoots basic instrumentation, culture media, chemicals, reagents, stains, solutions, and technical problems.
6. Maintains sufficient supplies at the workstation.
7. Ensures and maintains quality control and assurance activities.
8. Uses infection control practices and procedures, including wearing gloves, goggles, protective masks, and other safety equipment.
9. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned but considered related are not essential.

Job Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree required.
2. Current license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
3. 1-3 years of technical experience in Molecular Laboratory required.
4. NGS experience preferred.
