Qualifications

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making, banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping.
  2. Determine specimen acceptability based on established criteria.
  3. Perform routine and complex technical procedures following departmental SOPs.
  4. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation.
  5. Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
  6. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  7. Report accurate and timely test results to ensure quality patient care.
  8. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  9. Replenish testing supplies as needed.
  10. Assist with specimen processing when required.
  11. Maintain a safe work environment and wear PPE.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field meeting local regulatory requirements.
  2. Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience or a Bachelor's in Cytogenetics/MLS degree.
  3. Experience in cytogenetic/FISH testing preferred.
  4. Certification by NCA in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) is a plus.
  5. ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
  6. Ability to work independently and in a team.
  7. Proficiency with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  8. Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
  9. Ability to pass a color vision screen.
  10. Flexibility to work overtime or shifts as needed.
