Job summary

Labcorp in Brentwood, TN is seeking a Cytogenetics/Molecular lab professional to perform routine tissue culture, karyotyping, FISH, and related procedures as part of a high-volume clinical lab.

The role requires a bachelor in Chemical or Biological science or MLS, 1+ year of lab testing, preferred CLIA Cytogenetics credentials; schedule Tue-Sat 8:00-4:30; sign-on bonus of $4,000 for external candidates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR Bachelors in Cytogenetics OR an MLS degree.
  • Certification in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping.
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Location & Schedule

Location: Brentwood, TN.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Job Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR Bachelors in Cytogenetics OR an MLS degree
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience in cytogenetic/FISH
  • Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG)
  • ASCP or AMT certification
Additional Job Standards
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
