Job summary

University of Washington’s UW Medicine in Renton, WA invites applications for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 in the Specimen Processing Services Team. The CLT 1 will handle specimen processing, data entry, and routine lab tasks supporting timely patient diagnoses.

The role involves night shifts, 100% FTE, and a fixed-term appointment with opportunities to contribute to safety, training, and collaboration within the DLMP.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of chemical, clinical, or public health lab experience.
  • Or completion of an ASCP-approved laboratory assistant course.
  • Equivalent education/experience allowed where legally permissible.

Responsibilities

  • Sort and prioritize specimens and requests; match specimens to requisitions.
  • Operate lab equipment: balances, microscopes, spectrophotometers, pH meters, autoclaves.
  • Prepare reagents and culture media per procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, legible records and assist in training new staff.

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Renton, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 with the Specimen Processing Services Team at the Renton Central Laboratory.

Work Schedule
  • 100% FTE
  • Monday – Friday with rotating weekends and holidays)

What You’ll Contribute
  • Sort and prioritize initial specimens and requests, receive specimens. Match specimensagainst requisitions for appropriate tube type.
  • Prepare reagents, chemical solutions, culture media or cell cultures according to establishedprocedures.
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as electronic balances, microscopes,spectrophotometers, pH meters, autoclaves, metering pumps and centrifuges.
  • Centrifuge and aliquot appropriate specimen type and quantity as ordered.
  • Assist in orientation, training and support of new employees.
  • Refer testing to other laboratories as procedurally necessary.
  • Maintain complete, accurate and legible records.
  • Clean work area at least once each shift.
  • Answer telephones, intercom and window reception in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform computer functions required for completion of tasks: data entry of patient informationand tests requested, printing, worksheets, reports, result inquiry, etc.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning patient lab values, reference ranges, specimen requirements,procedures, time required for tests and preparation of specimens to outside labs for analysis.
  • Resolve specimen or order-related problems.
  • Attend division and departmental staff meetings.
  • Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork in the service and working relationshipbetween the laboratory and other departments.
  • Completes compliance, safety and other training relevant to job functions as assigned.
  • Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Assistant.
  • Perform related duties as required.
What You’ll Need

High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience

OR

Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Compensation, Benefits And Position Details
