UW Medicine’s Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Seattle seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technician I to join the Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing Services (PSPS) team at UW Medical Center - Montlake. You will perform specimen processing, phlebotomy, and support patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting.

This 100% FTE, evening shift position offers a one-year appointment with opportunities to orient/train staff and contribute to compliance with JCAHO, CLIA, and CAP standards.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent and 1 year of chemical/clinical/public health lab experience, or completion of an approved lab assistant course.
  • MA-P certification with WA Department of Health or obtain within 180 days of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Specimen Processing Activities: receive, sort, prioritize specimens; match to requisitions; centrifuge and aliquot.
  • Perform Phlebotomy Activities: venipuncture and capillary blood collection for inpatients and outpatients of all ages.
  • Provide Customer Service: respond professionally to inquiries from patients and staff.
  • Instruct patients on proper urine specimen collection.
  • Share Knowledge: orient/train new employees and support performance improvement activities.
  • Utilize Problem-Solving Skills: resolve specimen/order problems and document for supervisor review.

Together, we don’t just process specimens – we help power the future of healthcare.Work schedule:100% FTEHours 1430-2300 Days TBDEvening shiftOne Year AppointmentWhat you’ll contribute:Perform Specimen Process ing Activities | Perform specimen processing tasks such as receiving, sorting, and prioritizing specimens and requests, matching specimens against requisitions for appropriate tube type, centrifuging and aliquoting specimens, processing timed urine collections, resulting and reviewing entries for all reference lab testing, and performing various computer functions.Perform Phlebotomy Activities | Provide direct patient care by performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection on inpatients and outpatients of all ages.Perform Customer Service | Exercise your customer service skills by responding promptly, courteously, and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff.
