Qualifications

• Requires - minimum one-year work experience performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology, or have trained at an approved internship training program.
• Training or work experience must be comprehensive to cover all areas of the clinical laboratory.
• Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, biological science, Medical Laboratory Technology and/or equivalent from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).

Responsibilities

• adhere to the laboratory’s procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results
• follow the laboratory’s established quality control policies and procedures in documenting all corrective actions taken
• be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and notify supervisor/Director
• perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment in multiple disciplines
• perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate
• review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting
• recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics
• ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
• may be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture
• assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures
• adheres to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and HR policies
• in the absence of a supervisor, may be Lead Tech during shift
• may be assigned responsibilities related to POCT
• other tasks may be assigned by the department manager/director
