Job summary

The University of Michigan's Michigan Medicine invites applications for a Medical Technologist in the MM Microbiol Pathology department at Ann Arbor. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or other biological science.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist or eligibility for certification at time of hire.
  • Requires standing, walking, sitting and hand pipetting for long periods; ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Demonstrated successful clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate medical terminology and technical procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and act on clinical results.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills within a lab setting.

Responsibilities

  • Answer calls, monitor calls, report results and document communications.
  • Accession and process samples; prioritize distribution of patient samples.
  • Maintain instrument procedures; perform daily maintenance and troubleshoot.
  • Perform testing for waived, moderate and high complexity tests; ensure quality control.
  • Communicate with lab staff and clinicians; maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist in procedures and project work; support lab leadership.
